The Thüringer Bachwochen is Thuringia’s largest music festival. Every Easter, it sees more than 50 concerts take place across the state’s historic Bach sites, attended by some 20,000 Bach enthusiasts from all over the world. The event is centred on Bach’s early life and work in Thuringia. There are guest performances by internationally renowned soloists and ensembles, as well as young artists still at an early stage of their career. Their interpretations surprise and impress – and the authentic sites give them a particularly intense impact.
But the Thüringer Bachwochen is not just a classical music festival. Cross-genre events at clubs, galleries and factory halls demonstrate how Bach continues to inspire artists to this day, while dance, jazz and baroque lounges further enrich the festival programme and unlock new perspectives of Bach. The Bachwochen festival opens every year with the “Lange Nacht der Hausmusik“, during which over a hundred public concerts are held in private homes right across the state. Children and adults, amateurs and pros all make music together, showcasing Thuringia as a vibrant Bach region.
