Johann Sebastian Bach almost spent half of his life – 32 years – in Thuringia, the place where nearly all his relatives also happened to live. He was born in Eisenach, went to school in Ohrdruf, fell in love in Arnstadt, composed the first of his famous cantatas in Mühlhausen, had seven of his children born in Weimar, and played the organ in Altenburg. While most of the “Bachs” lived in Erfurt, the family’s origins lie in Wechmar.
