Thuringian Bach Collegium
Old treasures raised anew
The Thuringian Bach Collegium plays works by Johann Sebastian Bach, his ancestors (Altbachisches Archiv), his sons and contemporaries in historically informed performance practice on old instruments. As the musical ambassador of the Free State, the Thuringian Bach Collegium is regularly invited to festivals and also plays several baroque gems in authentic locations as true to the original as possible. Including many that have never been available on CD.
The joy of playing of the Thuringian Bach Collegium, which has been repeatedly certified by the feature pages, is unbroken and was recently manifested with a fourth CD: "Concerti Vol. II" with violin concertos by J.S. Bach will be released in 2021. A CD with works by Anton Schweitzer will also be released at the end of 2020. At the same time, the orchestra is also committed to the next generation, for example in workshops with children and young people as part of the ACHAVA Festival in Thuringia. The ensemble is led by Gernot Süßmuth, Johann Sebastian Bach's successor as concertmaster of the Staatskapelle Weimar. The managing director and double bass player is Christian Bergmann, who has been playing in the Staatskapelle Weimar for 20 years.
